I am delighted to inaugurate the opening of this old Burmese silver bowls exhibition. A collection of a dear friend of mine; an architect. He has dedicated his whole life to putting up collections of various objects and textiles from Southeast Asia. It is an honour to be able to present to all of you this exhibition at DEGIOSART at the Tiong Bahru gallery. I've been fascinated by the various designs which features in each of the bowls, ranging from floral to animals and representation of beings, zodiacs and legends. This exquisite craftsmanship goes back hundreds of years and portrays the elegance, sophistication and style of the Burmese culture and its traditions. Myanmar is gradually opening up, thus allowing us to discover more about their traditions and fine craftsmanship that the Burmese practiced. I hope you appreciate this exhibition as much as I do. This show represents the combined efforts of many people who have in a short period of time provided their energy, intelligence, determination and skills to all of us who are enamoured with Burma and it's quintessential refined style of living of the past. My thanks to all of them.
